The Ghost Of Tom Gordon!

I remember a time When Tom Gordon was pretty much automatic, when he was reliable enough to be a set up man for the best closer in history, Mariano Rivera. Then he came to the Phillies and has since been oft injured and anything but reliable.
It is my opinion that Tom Gordon is DONE! He is simply put, a ghost of his former self. Phillies fans cringe when he comes in to ball games. Inevitably he either blows a lead and or costs the Phillies the game.
Today against the cubs he came in to the game in the 8th inning and this was his line,
Gordon:

Inn 0.1

Runs 1

Earned 1

BB 1

K 1

HR 0

ERA11.12

Which means that he faced 3 hitters he walked one and one got a hit. He did manage to record one out but not before he gave up an earned run.

Now none of these numbers mean too much to most average baseball fans however, to Phillies fans it is just another Tom Gordon outing. I mean is it me or is the Phillies brain trust brain dead. It is completely obvious that this man is simply a shell of his former self. It is time for the brain trust to abandon the Tom Gordon project. the guy is done! I mean how many times does this guy have to give up an 8th inning home run, or worse another blown save before he costs the Phillies a playoff spot or a world series?

Come on Brain dead, I mean brain trust. It is time to stop chasing ghosts. Besides only Akroyd,Murray,Ramis and Hudson can do that job.

Ankle Sprain for J-Roll…

Ok so Jimmy Rollins, The reining N.L. MVP, Hurt his ankle yesterday against the Mets. To his Credit Rollins has said it is no big deal, however, When a guy whose game is all about hustle,this is a very big deal! My problem is the way it happened. So three or four times Jose Reyes tried to fake out Rollins while his pitcher never even attempted a single throw. On one of those fakes Rollins apparently twisted his ankle as he went back into the bag a little awkwardly. My problem is the fact that Reyes apparently was smiling at Rollins almost laughing at him. As a Phils fan this infuriates me! Let me first say I hate the Mets! Let me also say Jose Reyes is one of the most overrated players in all of major League Baseball. The fact that he thought this was funny, is extremely offensive. These guys are supposed to be a brotherhood. For Reyes finding it even remotely amusing pisses me off. Reyes should take a few lessons from Rollins. First off he should learn how to be a real leadoff hitter, an above average infielder, but most of all he should learn how to become a clutch hitter. In September during the Mets world famous collapse, Reyes did not steal ONE BASE! Not ONE! Reyes was the leader in Stolen Bases last year. For a guy whose game is based on stolen bases to set the table for his big RBI hitters behind him in the lineup, He sure came up real SMALL last year. Meanwhile down the turnpike some 90 miles. The catalyst, Jimmy Rollins, Was hitting singles, doubles, triples even a few homers. All of this from the leadoff position. I think the next time Rollins is on second base and Reyes is behind him, Maybe Jose should ask Rollins for some pointers on how to be a leader. If Reyes would try that instead some fake throwing nonsense, maybe his team would have a chance in September. As it stands right now, Reyes and the Mets will never win anything with Reyes’ aloof attitude.
